- We started off the year with a little trouble when the elected president moved to Salt Lake. The Vice President decided to step up as president and chose the runner up for president as his vice president. We started off the year with a combined CS-ACM, CS-ACMW, and FSLC opening social. This turned out to be a good success. Many professors including Dr. Cooley (Department Head) attended the event. The CS-ACMW arranged for the computer olympic with event like the hammer throw (we used mice). Most FSLC members wore their "penguin" shirts which helped us stand out. We had a build your own hoagie bar for food. FSLC participated in their first street painting this year. We painted a giant tux right outside the Engineering parking lot. We did this using a grid. Nathan George printed up a picture of tux with a grid across him before then we laid out the grid on the road using chalk and then used that to outline tux. We also did our first sidewalk chalking (writing linux.usu.edu on the sidewalks around campus). FSLC hosted many workshops this year. Our first work shop was lamp. Dirk and Wayne cover the PHP section. We used SER 005 for this workshop, at first we had more atendees than computers. Our second workshop was on Samba and was taught by Oscar. Our third workshop was on computer security and was taught mostly by Kyle Waters, but include presentations from Miles Johnson, Kyle Butt, and Eldon Koyle. It included a sample buffer overflow exploit. FSLC also moved to the new engineering building this year.
